A reimagining, not a remake, of Fletch is coming to theaters

I wish I was shocked to hear this, but I’m not. FLETCH, the film and character made famous by Chevy Chase back in 1985 is getting a remake. Oh wait, I’m sorry- it’s getting re-imagined, not remade. So says Warner Bros. studio who “hope to make an smart action comedy that plays out on a bigger canvas than the previous movies.” No writer or director is yet on board, but Warner Bros. seems quite intent on making this happen, but surprisingly it appears to have been in the works for awhile attracting interest from Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Smith, Ben Affleck, Jason Lee and Joshua Jackson. Of course, none of these people are still attached but it makes the project more appealing. We’ll have to wait and see how this all pans out in the next six months or so.
I think I may be one of the only people on the planet that didn’t like FLETCH. I didn’t find it funny or amusing at all. So I’m totally fine with a remake, as long as it doesn’t turn into a slapstick-fest.
