Jim Carrey

Although Jim Carrey had done a few small movies and TV shows before 1990, it wasn’t until TV’s ‘In Living Color’ that Carrey’s brand of comedy made it’s way into American homes. That led to his breakout performance in ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE and by the mid-90’s, kids everywhere were running around their school yelling “alllrrriiiggghhtttttyyyy then” to an obnoxious degree. In fact, Carrey’s comedic dominance in the mid-90’s was so great that any and every appearance he made was must see TV, from his acceptance speeches at the MTV movie awards to his guest spots on late night talk shows. After conquering slapstick comedy in the Ace Ventura movies as well as THE MASK and DUMB AND DUMBER, Carrey branched out into drama with the very well received THE TRUMAN SHOW, which garnered him much praise and set him down the path of drama for the next few years. He followed that up with one of the best films of the 2000’s in ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and then hit a bit of a dry spell until the very funny YES, MAN in 2008. After being robbed of an Oscar for MAN ON THE MOON, Carrey hasn’t been able to get that elusive Oscar nomination, despite strong performances in several dramas. And until recently, he had disowned the slapstick comedy that made him famous, only returning to it in this year’s DUMB AND DUMBER TO. But his recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live proved that Jim Carrey is still one of the funniest people alive.
