Melissa McCarthy
Born in Plainfield, Illinois, Melissa McCarthy grew up on a farm in an Irish Catholic family. As an alumna of the famous improvisational, sketch comedy troupe The Groundlings, McCarthy had her first television appearance in her cousin Jenny McCarthy‘s comedy series, “The Jenny McCarthy Show.” After several small roles in feature films, she landed a steady role as Sookie St. James in the popular tevision show “Gilmore Girls from 2000-2007. McCarthy continued her success in television with “Samantha Who?” starring her friend Christina Applegate; then a leading role opposite Billy Gardell in the currently running comedy, “Mike & Molly.” The show has earned her two Emmy nominations and one win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. But McCarthy‘s big breakout role came in 2011 with a supporting part in the comedy hit BRIDESMAIDS starring Kristen Wigg and directed by Paul Feig. McCarthy‘s standout performance earned her an Oscar nomination followed by several leading comedy roles. Her down-to-earth likability and all-in approach to comedy keeps the laughs coming as she is able to find little nuances of humor in any line of dialogue or in her physical mannerisms. She has earned two Emmy nominations as Outstanding Guest Actress on Saturday Night Live and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 19, 2015. Starring opposite Sandra Bullock in the buddy cop comedy blockbuster THE HEAT, proved Melissa to be a box office draw. Her husband, actor, writer, director Ben Falcone (Air Marshall Jon in BRIDESMAIDS) directed McCarthy in the film TAMMY opposite Susan Sarandon and the upcoming MICHELLE DARNELL. They have two children together. As the current leading lady of comedy, Melissa McCarthy can be found reuniting with her BRIDESMAIDS and THE HEAT director in the summer comedy SPY and in the upcoming Ghostbusters remake.
