Adam Sandler recruits Taylor Lautner for Grown Ups 2
Taylor Lautner is currently in talks to take on a role in the upcoming sequel to the 2010 Adam Sandler comedy GROWN UPS. The original film followed a group of friends who had a reunion after their high school basketball coach died. The original film starred Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Dennis Dugan and Salma Hayek. In the sequel Taylor Lautner would take on a role that has him going up against Adam Sandler in some sort of situation. No word on when the film would hit theaters, but I would suspect it would be sometime during the summer of 2013.
This will be an interesting (but smart) move for Taylor Lautner as he’s coming off his lackluster solo performance in ABDUCTION. Teaming up with Adam Sandler is usually a good move for any up and coming star since there is already a built-in audience for Adam Sandler movies. A small role in GROWN UPS 2 will also give audiences an idea of whether or not Mr. Lautner has any comedy chops without putting him in a full blown role.
Although I enjoyed Adam Sandler’s earlier films I’m finding it tough to get behind his recent flops. Adam Sandler as a hairdresser/spy (YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN) did nothing for me and Adam Sandler dressed up as a woman (JACK AND JILL) was so unappealing I couldn’t even watch it. I did like JUST GO WITH IT which teamed up Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, but I think that’s because the film didn’t rely too heavily on Sandler alone. I have yet to watch GROWN UPS and probably won’t, so this sequel doesn’t really appeal to me at all. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that someday Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore will team up for another romantic comedy because he really shined in 50 FIRST DATES and THE WEDDING SINGER. (THR)
