Alex Pettyfer shot a sex scene for Gus Van Sant's Fifty Shades of Grey audition

The internet was abuzz yesterday and today with the news that director Gus Van Sant (GOOD WILL HUNTING) shot a sex scene featuring Alex Pettyfer and an unknown actress as a sort of “audition” for the FIFTY SHADES OF GREY gig. The scene in question is supposedly the one where the older Christian Grey seduces and takes the virginity of the younger Anastasia Steele. Now, Alex Pettyfer is only 23, so I’m not sure how old that makes the girl in question, but that’s just one of many things that baffle me about this news.

First, does Gus Van Sant really have to audition anymore? The guy has an incredible resume and his work should speak for himself. Second, why does he want this film so bad? Finally, why Alex Pettyfer? I’m curious if this test scene was more to get Van Sant the job or to get Alex Pettyfer a job period. These questions and more should be answered soon since Universal paid a hefty price for the movie rights and I have to assume they want to get the ball rolling. Kelly Marcel (SAVING MR.
