Amanda Seyfried stars in the trailer for the porn biopic Lovelace

Amanda Seyfried in Lovelace

Any movie dealing with the porn industry is a tough sell, mainly because by merely using the word “porn”, you immediately alienate half of America.  But the industry is ripe with Hollywood stories of good girls gone bad, drugs, abuse and of course, sex.  The Linda Lovelace biopic, LOVELACE has all of the above in abundance, along with a brave turn from Amanda Seyfried.  Early reviews call the film a straightforward biopic, so I’m not sure this will find the audience it’s hoping for, but for those not familiar with Lovelace’s story, it should be an eye opener.  LOVELACE is set to star Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Wes Bentley, Juno Temple, Sharon Stone, Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth, Adam Brody, Robert Patrick, Eric Roberts, Chloe Sevigny and James Franco.  Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (HOWL) are directing the film which is set to hit theaters on August 9th.  Check out the trailer below.

The official synopsis for LOVELACE: In 1972—before the internet, before the porn explosion—Deep Throat was a phenomenon: the first scripted pornographic theatrical feature film, featuring a story, some jokes, and an unknown and unlikely star, Linda Lovelace. Escaping a strict religious family, Linda discovered freedom and the high-life when she fell for and married charismatic hustler Chuck Traynor. As Linda Lovelace she became an international sensation—less centerfold fantasy than a charming girl-next-door with an impressive capacity for fellatio. Fully inhabiting her new identity, Linda became an enthusiastic spokesperson for sexual freedom and uninhibited hedonism. Six years later she presented another, utterly contradictory, narrative to the world—and herself as the survivor of a far darker story.
