American Hustle and Gravity lead the way at the 2014 Oscar Nominations
The nominations for the 86th Annual Academy Awards have been announced and as predicted, there are no huge surprises here. The closest thing to a surprise is the number of nominations THE WOLF OF WALL STREET managed to snag, including acting nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill, as well as another Best Director nomination for Martin Scorsese. And I’m disappointed that the Coen Bros.’ INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS didn’t get more attention and only received two nominations. I’m not sure how it didn’t get a nomination for Best Song.
Leading the way with 10 nominations are AMERICAN HUSTLE and GRAVITY. The former cleaned up in the acting categories while the latter cleaned up in the technical categories. But awards season favorite 12 YEARS A SLAVE was close behind with 9 nominations, so for those of you hoping it might not be the frontrunner will be disappointed. As far as snubs go, the only thing that really sticks out to me is the lack of Best Actor nomination for Tom Hanks’s performance in CAPTAIN PHILLIPS. In my opinion, he gave the best performance of the year and it’s disappointing to not see his name on the list. Check out the complete list of nominations after the jump and stay tuned for way more Oscar analysis leading up to the show on March 2nd.
