Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone star in a new and much better trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man
If you’ve read any of my posts about THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, then you know that my biggest gripe about it is that it looks like all the Spider-Man films we’ve seen before. And up until now, I wasn’t really looking forward to it because I had little to no faith in the reboot. But there’s something about this new trailer that has me excited. It feels like everything clicks in it, from Andrew Garfield‘s portrayal of Peter Parker (which I was skeptical about) to Rhys Ifans as The Lizard. And I’m happy to say that despite what the first trailer would have you believe, it looks like they’re clearly taking a different approach than what we’ve seen before.
I’m sure Sony was under a little pressure this week to pump out something for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN since all the hype this weekend has been around THE AVENGERS, not to mention we just got a brand new trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. I had almost forgotten THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was even coming out. But if it can keep this momentum going and if it uses the IMAX and 3D aspect efficiently, then this could be a serious challenger for movie of the summer that doesn’t involve Batman. And no one should underestimate the pressure that Andrew Garfield has on his shoulders. I thought Tobey Maguire was a perfect Peter Parker, so Andrew Garfield has some big shoes to fill.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dennis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Cambell Scott and Sally Field. Marc Webb is handling directing duties and although I loved 500 DAYS OF SUMMER, I have say that there was nothing in that film that gave me the impression he could handle a Summer action movie. But we’ll get to see how he does when THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN hits theaters on July 3rd, 2012.
