Anton Yelchin: 1989 – 2016
This is a terrible way to close out the weekend. The news has just been confirmed that actor Anton Yelchin died in a freak car accident. And when I say “freak”, I’m not exaggerating. Reports say he was standing by his brick mailbox at his Los Angeles home when his car rolled into him and pinned him in. Apparently, he has a steep driveway, but details are still a little scarce.
Yelchin is best known for his role as Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek series, but at only 27 years old, the young actor has quite a long resume. He made his acting debut on the show E.R., but hit mainstream audiences in the film ALPHA DOG. He’s gone on to star in several smaller films such as GREEN ROOM, ODD THOMAS and THE DRIFTLESS AREA. Yelchin is an only child and was born in Russia to professional figure skaters that moved to the United States when he was a boy. He will be missed.
