Arnold Schwarzenegger and Conan the Barbarian coming to Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the 1982 action/ fantasy film CONAN THE BARBARIAN, starring the Governator (that’s Arnold in case you’ve been in a cave), James Earl Jones and Max von Sydow, will be released on Blu-ray August 2, 2011. Convienently this is two weeks before the remake of film starring Jason Momoa will be released…hmmm. CONAN THE BARBARIAN follows the tale of a child sold into slavery who grows into a man who seeks revenge against the warlord who massacred his tribe.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN is one of those films that I know I have seen, but can’t remember anything about. I feel like it was one of those movies that was played on television all the time which just watered the whole thing down for me. Now that I’m older and wiser I’ll watch it to see if it is really as cheesy as I remember it being (there’s like 110% chance it will be). There have been reports that there will be an extended cut of the film that runs about 136-minutes as well as a slew of other special features that include:

Conan the Barbarian Blu-ray

  • Extended Cut featuring Never Before Seen Footage
  • Exclusive U-Control Picture-in-Picture Experience
  • Conan Unchained: The Making of Conan
  • All New Cast and Crew Interviews
  • A Comprehensive Study of Robert E. Howard’s Stories
  • Deleted and Alternate Scenes
  • The Conan Archives & Vault Production Stills
  • Exclusive First Look: Conan the Barbarian (2011)
