Earlier this month director Baz Luhrmann was considering scrapping his upcoming film THE GREAT GATSBY which will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Today we learn that he is indeed moving forward and has scheduled production and shooting which will take place in Sydney. The film (which will also be shot in 3D) is an adaptation of the famous novel and follows the wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for Daisy Buchanan and their relationship set on Long Island during the year 1922. Pre-production is set to start in March and the actors will step in front of the cameras this coming August. THE GREAT GATSBY will be released in theaters sometime in 2012.

I think I’ve already waxed poetically about my love for Baz Luhrmann films, so I’ll keep any more sentiments to myself. Obviously I can’t wait to see this film because the talent all around is great and I’m eagerly anticipating the beautiful scenes that Luhrmann comes up with. Long Island in the 1920’s, who better to take us to that era?
