Beasts of the Southern Wild reveals a new poster and trailer
One of the most talked about indie films this year is director Benh Zeitlin’s BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. The film received critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival, taking home the Grand Jury Prize and now it’s been nominated to compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. If it hasn’t hit your radar yet, then you’re in luck as today a new poster and trailer have been revealed. Beware, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD has garnered so much attention that there’s a good chance you’ll see it nominated for some Golden Globes and Academy Awards later this year. So if you have a chance to see it you better jump on that opportunity.
BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD follows 6-year-old Hushpuppy (played by Quvenzhané Wallis) as she goes in search of her mother after her father’s health starts to deteriorate. Along the way environmental changes release an army of prehistoric creatures called aurochs that will surely play a major role. BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD will be receiving a limited theatrical release on June 29th, 2012.
To be honest, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD didn’t fall on my radar either, but now I’m going to keep a look out for it. The film appears to combine real life with fantasy which normally would be a red flag, but since the film is told through the eyes of a child it just may work. However, you should decide whether or not you want to see it yourself after watching the trailer below.
