Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill face off in the first Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice teaser trailer
I have to admit that I feel a little bad for Warner Bros. right now, or at least as bad as you can feel for a billion dollar company. Yesterday, Disney unveiled the new trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS to huge applause and publicity. But around the same time, the first teaser trailer for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE was illegally uploaded to YouTube to the chagrin of everyone at WB. The problem, of course, is that WB really, really needs this movie to be successful because they’ve lined up numerous sequels and spin-offs, all banking on this film’s success. And unfortunately, as much as fans love Batman and Superman and are excited to see them square off, nothing can compete with Star Wars. So instead of a loud bang, the first trailer for WB’s tentpole film hits with a thud, because WB had no choice but to release the official version so fans wouldn’t have to watch a low quality copy.
And how is it? It’s okay. There’s not much going on and we have to remember that it’s just a teaser, but the problem for WB is that since it came out right after the Star Wars teaser, it’s going to be compared to Star Wars and that’s not fair to BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. With that said, WB knew they were going to start the marketing early to ride the Avengers and Star Wars train, so I think they could have done better. The trailer is very dark and doesn’t do much to get us excited. But it does give us our first look at Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne and his nifty Batsuit, so there’s that.
BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Jason Momoa. The Zack Snyder directed film hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
