Ben Affleck confirms he isn't working on the Justice League film
When it was first rumored that Ben Affleck was being sought by Warner Bros. to direct their Justice League film, I was on the side that thought it was a great idea, at least for the studio. But almost as quick as the rumor got started, the rumor began to die as everyone jumped up to deny he was attached to the film in any way. But Affleck remained silent, until today, when he gave this quote to Vancouver’s 24 Hours: “I’m not working on the Justice League. One of the problems with entertainment websites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumors get started. Justice League sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.”
Now, I hate to nitpick here, especially after Ben Affleck took a little dig at entertainment websites, but I do want to point out that it seems Ben was very careful with his phrasing. I feel okay taking it to the bank that Ben Affleck isn’t going to direct the Justice League movie and has nothing to do with it, but some of you that are holding out hope or want to read more into things can hold onto the fact that he didn’t flat out deny his involvement and he did kind of leave the door open for his involvement in the future. That said, this doesn’t sound like the kind of film Ben Affleck would direct. He would have little to no control over the process and since he’s stated he wants to appear in the films he directs, it would be a stretch for the 40 year-old actor to find a place in the Justice League. But you never know how things will play out, especially since Warner Bros. seems intent on making a Justice League film before all the characters get their standalone films.
