Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini star in the Killing Them Softly trailer
We’ve gotten several stills and even an actual clip from Brad Pitt‘s upcoming film, KILLING THEM SOFTLY, but what we haven’t gotten is a trailer for the film, until now. Even though this is a much smaller film and more of a dramatic character study, it’s going to be interesting to see how America reacts to Brad Pitt being a bad guy. We’re so accustomed to Brad Pitt being the charming hero and it seems he’s anything but that in KILLING THEM SOFTLY, at least if the first trailer is any indication. I normally feel that Brad Pitt is great in anything he does and I’m excited to see him try something different. This will also see Brad Pitt reteam with his THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD director Andrew Dominik.
As for the film’s plot, the trailer makes the original plot outline of a group of amateurs robbing a high stakes, mob controlled poker game and then running from the guy the mob sends after them come through pretty clearly. Brad Pitt, of course, is the guy going after the amateur thieves and it sounds like he’s much more inclined to use excessive force than anyone else around town. The highlight in the film seems to be from the directing, with slow motion and clever camera angles. If there’s a problem, I’d say it’s with the dialogue, which didn’t quite do it for me. I’m sure that will be cleared up in the film, but I didn’t feel the spots they used did the film justice.
KILLING THEM SOFTLY stars Brad Pitt, Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins, Ben Mendelsohn, Scoot McNairy, Max Casella, Sam Shepard and Bella Heathcote. Pushed back from its original release date of September 21st, KILLING THEM SOFTLY will now hit theaters on October 19th, 2012.
