Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale and Amy Adams star in the new American Hustle trailer

American Hustle trailer

I can’t help but think BOOGIE NIGHTS when I watch the new trailer for David O. Russell’s AMERICAN HUSTLE.  They seemingly have nothing in common other than the 70’s backdrop, so the fact I think about that film is more of a testament to Paul Thomas Anderson’s film than anything.  The new trailer seems to have a nice blend of humor and drama and it seems the film is getting some good amateur reviews from recent screenings.  But as a general rule, I never pay attention to reviews coming from test screenings because often times, people feel so lucky to be at the screening that they end up giving everything a positive review.  Either way, AMERICAN HUSTLE is one to watch for this awards season.  That cast alone demands respect.  AMERICAN HUSTLE is set to star Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Louis C.K., Amy Adams, Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, Michael Pena, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm and Jeremy Renner.  The film used to be called ‘American Bullsh**’, but that title was dropped for obvious reasons.  AMERICAN HUSTLE is directed by David O. Russell and will have a limited release on December 13th and a wide release on December 25th.

The AMERICAN HUSTLE official synopsis: A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the States, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.
