Caleb Landry Jones joins Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton in Byzantium

The good news for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS star Caleb Landry Jones is that he’s nabbed a role in Neil Jordan’s next film BYZANTIUM. The bad news for Banshee is that it’s yet another film about vampires. The film is much more than a couple of teens drooling over each other and it involves a mother-daughter team of vampires that travel around, but eventually stop in a small British town, whose inhabitants figure out who/what they are. Jones will play a man suffering from leukemia who strikes up a friendship with the daughter vampire. Gemma Arterton will play the mother vamp while Saoirse Ronan will play the daughter vampire.
Yeah, the vampire schtick is dead, but I’m a fan of Neil Jordan, even if no one else seems to take the time to see his movies. ONDINE was a nice fairy-tale gem from last year and his taking on vampires and the confrontation of mortality/immortality is appealing. But again, I’m sick of vampires, so it’s hard to get too excited. BYZANTIUM starts in October and will hit theaters in 2012.
