Carla Gugino joins Jim Carrey in Mr. Popper's Penguins

Carla Gugino is racking up the roles lately, appearing in Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH, then starring with Dwayne Johnson in FASTER and most recently signing on for the action drama MILF. Now she’s taking on what I assume is going to be a dramedy in MR POPPER’S PENGUINS with Jim Carrey. In the film, Gugino will presumably play the wife of Mr. Popper (Carrey), a painter that dreams of exploring the arctic and so he writes to his favorite arctic explorer, who then sends him a gift in the form of a dozen penguins (it’s believed the film will downsize that to six). Popper and his wife have to deal with the birds, which leads them to turning them into a show and traveling across the country.
Even though I never read the children’s book by Richard and Florence Atwater, the premise sounds fun and Jim Carrey and Carla Gugino should make a good team. I’ll be interested to see how director Mark Waters handles the penguins and whether or not he goes predominantly with CGI.
