Carrie Fisher: 1956 – 2016
After Carrie Fisher suffered a “massive heart attack” on Christmas Eve, news about her condition was scarce. The more time went on, I knew it was becoming more and more likely that she wasn’t going survive. Today, her family released the news that Carrie Fisher passed away this morning at the age of 60. She’s yet another tragic loss in what has proven to be a very miserable year for the world and for pop culture icons.
Of course, you can’t mention Carrie Fisher’s name without mentioning Star Wars. She was part of the big trifecta of stars that will forever be associated with the most popular franchise of all time. Leia is arguably the most iconic female heroine in movie history, thanks in large part to Carrie Fisher’s grounded performance. But many people forget that Carrie Fisher found success as a writer post-Star Wars, penning the script to POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE and doctoring up several other scripts. Her HBO special, WISHFUL DRINKING is hilarious and brave, showcasing why the world loved her as more than just Leia. She will be sorely missed.
