Casey Affleck to star in the romantic comedy The F-Word

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

When you flip through the Merriam-Webster dictionary and stop at the “F” section, you can see that there are many, many words that begin with the letter “F”.  However, when you refer to “the f-word”, there’s usually only one word that comes to mind; facioauriculovertebral.  Okay, maybe there’s another word that comes to mid, but for those of us that have liked a girl and been unsure if she reciprocates those feelings, the scariest word in the English language is actually “friend”.  Because as we all know, once you enter the “friend zone” with a girl, it’s really, really hard to get out of it.

If you’re thinking that that concept would make a fun romantic comedy, then you should be a Hollywood executive, because the folks over at Fox Searchlight agree.  They’ve nabbed the rights to Elan Mastai’s script that is actually based on the play ‘Cigars and Toothpaste’ from T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi.  The still-underrated Casey Affleck is set to star in the film, marking a departure from his usual depressing dramas.  Alex Holdridge is set to direct the rom-com about a guy trying to avoid the friend zone with a girl he likes.
