Cate Blanchett's Indian Summer put on hold by Universal

The tough economic times are hitting everyone these days (side: aren’t things supposed to be getting better soon?) and Hollywood is no exception. The upcoming Joe Wright (ATONEMENT) directed film, INDIAN SUMMER was put on hold indefinitely because the budget is too much for Universal to take on right now. Also, along with the high budget, there’s still some controversy surrounding the events in the film.
According to Variety, the film chronicles the days of the transition of Britain’s rule of India in the late 40’s. What’s still uncertain is the relationship between Edna Mountbatten (who was to be played by Cate Blanchett) and Jawaharlal Nehru (India’s first Prime Minister after the transition). As of now, there are no plans to reschedule filming and the movie has been delayed indefinitely.
