Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the adventure drama THE EAGLE, directed by Kevin Macdonald and starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Mark Strong, will be released on Blu-ray June 21, 2011. The film follows a young Roman soldier named Marcus Aquila (Tatum) who goes on a quest to find his father’s golden emblem from a lost legion. The film opened in February and after about three months in theaters only grossed over $19 million and received fair reviews with most people claiming that it was alright but nothing spectacular.
Personally, I’m on the fence with this film. On one hand I enjoy this era and just love a good sword fight, but I also feel like this is almost a rehash of what we’ve already seen. I’ll still watch it though, just because it has an unrated cut and really those can make all the difference between okay and awesome. The Blu-ray will include the theatrical version as well as an unrated cut and digital copy and has special features that include:
- Commentary with director Kevin Macdonald
- The Eagle: Making of a Roman Epic
- Alternate ending
- Deleted scenes
