Channing Tatum could direct Magic Mike 2 and take the characters on the road
With the crazy success of this summer’s MAGIC MIKE, from director Steven Soderbergh, it was no surprise to hear that a sequel was on the way. However, before there were talks about a sequel, star Channing Tatum and company discussed taking the story to Broadway to make MAGIC MIKE one spectacular on-stage show. While the Broadway plan is still in place (and more of a priority than the sequel), the problem with the MAGIC MIKE 2 film was that Steven Soderbergh was taking a break from making films and would not be coming back to direct a sequel. So since MAGIC MIKE was Channing Tatum’s baby (the story was loosely based off his life as a male stripper) it was only natural that he would take on the role of directing with Reid Carolin taking on the screenwriting and producing. So what would MAGIC MIKE 2 have in store for fans? According to Carolin, “You know, we are talking a lot about it. We have a story, and it is really ridiculous and fun. It’s a road movie sort of thing, where a bunch of strippers get back together. It’s more of a broad comedy. I don’t know whether it will happen or not.” That sounds a bit cheesy, but I guess if you have enough good looking guys to pull it off then it could be another box office success.
You can pick up MAGIC MIKE on Blu-ray October 23rd, 2012. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, MAGIC MIKE stars: Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Olivia Munn, Alex Pettyfer, Cody Horn and Joe Manganiello. (AlloCine)
