Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Alex Pettyfer strike a pose on the new poster for Magic Mike
The first thing I noticed on the new poster for MAGIC MIKE is the order in which the main stars appear. You have Channing Tatum doing his thing front and center, which makes sense since it was his idea, based on his early days working as a stripper. Right behind Channing Tatum you have Matthew McConaughey, which stands to reason since after all, he’s Matthew McConaughey. After that, things get a little confusing because you have Matt Bomer to Channing Tatum’s right, which I find odd because Bomer wasn’t really in the first couple of trailers. Then you have Joe Managaniello in the far left and Alex Pettyfer in the far right. I was under the impression that Pettyfer was the second main star (he’s second billing, behind Tatum), but it doesn’t seem like the studio is banking on Pettyfer putting people in the theaters. If there’s one complaint with the poster, it’s that they really should have found a way to fit in some ladies. I know they’re hoping the all-star male cast is enough to attract the female audience, but they gotta give the fellas a reason to go as well.
MAGIC MIKE stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Gabriel Iglesias, Riley Keough, Olivia Munn and Cody Horn. The Steven Soderbergh directed film hits theaters on June 29th, 2012. If there’s one film in 2012 I’m anxious to see perform at the box office, it’s MAGIC MIKE. I find the very idea of marketing this film to be daunting and no matter how good it is, it will always be known as the male stripper movie. But Channing Tatum is on top of the world right now after 21 JUMP STREET and THE VOW, so his name alone may be enough to fill the theaters.
