Channing Tatum to star in an Evel Knievel biopic
After having one of the best years for an actor in recent memory, Channing Tatum is riding high on the success of HAYWIRE, THE VOW, 21 JUMP STREET and MAGIC MIKE, all of which opened within six months of each other. And I can fully admit that I find the guy to be charming and funny and I tend to enjoy his movies, just because he’s in them. But I want to make it clear for anyone that may be confused by the increase in Channing Tatum hype; Channing Tatum is not a great actor. Channing Tatum can dance, he can be funny and he can muddle his way through an action movie, but any time he’s in a drama, it always feels like something is missing. So it’s with cautious optimism that I bring you news of his next project.
Channing Tatum is set to star in and produce a biopic of the legendary stuntman Evel Knievel. The script will be written by frequent Channing Tatum collaborator Reid Carolin and based off the book “Life Of Evel” by Stuart Barker. For those not that familiar with Knievel, he was extremely famous in the 70’s, not only for his crazy stunts, but also for his big personality and numerous broken bones. So the role is a mixed bag for Channing Tatum in the sense that it will give him a chance to rely on his natural charm and physique, but it will stretch him whenever the subject goes to Knievel’s love life and family situation. Either way, this seems like a decent next step for Channing Tatum, who already has the action film WHITE HOUSE DOWN, The Wachowski’s JUPITER ASCENDING and BenneTt Miller’s FOXCATCHER all on the horizon. Like him or not, you’re going to be seeing a lot of Channing Tatum over the next few years. (THR)
