Charlie Hunnam drops out of Fifty Shades of Grey

Charlie Hunnam

In what can only be considered a huge surprise, Charlie Hunnam has officially dropped out of the film adaption of EL James’ FIFTY SHADES OF GREY.  Hunnam was slated to play Christian Grey in the erotic S&M film opposite Dakota Johnson, but it looks like the young actor had second thoughts.  Universal issued this statement: “The filmmakers of Fifty Shades Of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

That’s studio talk for: “After careful consideration, the very talented Charlie Hunnam realized that this film would be a career killer and eventually wised up and dropped out of the film”.  I kid, of course, but any actor that wants to be taken seriously can’t star in a film that started out as Twilight fan fiction.  I realized the novel has sold a zillion copies, but appealing to the moviegoing world is a whole new ballgame.  So with Charlie Hunnam out, who do you think should take over the role of Christian Grey?  Fans were petitioning to get Matt Bomer in the role, so maybe Universal will approach him with the idea.
