With STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS hitting theaters this Friday, it’s understandable studios would want to release trailers for their big summer movies before the Star Wars machine gets going. But Paramount should know better with Star Trek. There was no need to release this trailer before Christmas because Trekkies aside, no one is going to care much about it. With a July release, they should have waited for the Super Bowl, which would have given them more hype and a couple of months space between Star Wars. But alas, below is the new trailer. The music is off-putting and it almost looks like they’re doing a self-parody thing from the first one, which seems a bit odd. But I liked the first two films of this iteration and I’m excited to see what Justin Lin can bring to the franchise, so I have high hopes for STAR TREK BEYOND.

There’s no official synopsis yet for STAR TREK BEYOND, but we do know the film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella. The Justin Lin directed film hits theaters on July 22nd, 2016.
