Christian Bale may be replaced by Jeremy Renner in David O. Russell's untitled film
Christian Bale has been a busy guy lately. With the release of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES this weekend and working on two films from Terrence Malick (KNIGHT OF CUPS and the formerly titled LAWLESS), it’s not terribly surprising that something would have to give. Sadly that something is David O. Russell’s AMERICAN BULLSHIT (which will undoubtedly be renamed, I’m sure). Lucky for David O. Russell, will probably be able to land Jeremy Renner (THE BOURNE LEGACY) for the role opposite Bradley Cooper.
AMERICAN BULLSHIT is based on the true events of Abscam, which was an undercover FBI operation in the 1980s that was put in place to eliminate corruption in the government. Thought up by convicted con man Melvin Weinberg (Bradley Cooper), he was hired to run the investigation which targeted over thirty officials that led to eleven convictions. Jeremy Renner would play Jimmy Boyle the agent who originally arrested Weinberg, but teamed up with him on the project. Production is supposed to start in February with no official release date yet.
