Christian Bale confirms he will not be Batman in the Justice League movie
Before we even get to Christian Bale’s quote regarding his possible involvement in the planned JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, I think it’s important to gain some perspective on the situation. First, I hate these “non-news” stories because they’re just that; an actor saying he or she isn’t going to do something before they even get approached about it. Second, remember that Christian Bale is stating the situation as it is at this very moment. Things in Hollywood change on a dime and tomorrow, Christian Bale could sign on for another 10 Batman films for all we know. Third, no one knows (including Bale, as he admits) what’s going on with the Justice League movie. MAN OF STEEL is a huge success, but it wasn’t the groundbreaking superhero film everyone was hoping for. Warner Bros. still has a lot of planning to do before they even think about casting a film like the Justice League. But here’s what Christian Bale told EW about his possible involvement:
“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy, Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well. I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
So there you have it; at this very moment, Christian Bale will not be playing Batman again. But don’t be surprised if Warner Bros. opens up the checkbooks and waves $20 million in his face if he changes his mind. He doesn’t want to do it now, but things have a way of changing.
