Christian Bale in talks to play Steve Jobs for Danny Boyle
Everyone in Hollywood wants to make a movie about Steve Jobs. Joshua Michael Stern got there first with his film last year, JOBS, which starred Ashton Kutcher. And although it wasn’t as horrible as everyone was expecting, it wasn’t great and definitely wasn’t enough to dissuade any A-lister from having another crack at it. For the longest time, David Fincher was going to direct the film from a script by Aaron Sorkin based on the biography by Walter Isaacson, but he eventually dropped out and paved the way for Danny Boyle to step in. So with an A-list director in Danny Boyle and an A-list writer in Aaron Sorkin, all we needed was an A-list actor to play Steve Jobs. And today, it looks like we have one.
Christian Bale is in talks to play Mr. Jobs in what can only be described as an unconventional biography. Rather than tracking Jobs’s life from birth to death, the film will follow three separate 30 minute scenes following three separate product launches. I know, I’m not sure how that’s going to work either, but it sees right up Danny Boyle’s alley and if Aaron Sorkin can cut back on the pretentiousness a little bit, it could be great. But the big news is Christian Bale putting on the black turtleneck. I think playing Jobs would require an actor to do a ton of research on the role and really commit to it and we all know Bale is willing to do whatever it takes to transform into a character.
