I don’t know if it’s possible to make a decent mermaid movie, but I’m really digging Neil Jordan’s ONDINE trailer. He has his work cut out for him given the lackluster films that have come before him, but his film seems to be a little darker than most and the story appears to run a little deeper. The film revolves around an Irish fisherman that finds a woman that he’s convinced is a mermaid. It’s like SPLASH, but without a goofy Tom Hanks. The film stars Colin Farrell, Alicja Bachleda, Stephen Rea and Tony Curran. There’s no US release date yet, but it hits most of Europe in April and May.
This also looks like a good role for Colin Farrell, who has taken on some smaller, deeper characters lately.
