Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has just announced that THE KING’S SPEECH, starring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush, will be available on Blu-ray April 19, 2011. The film follows King George VI (Firth) who is desperately trying to get past his stuttering and fear of public speaking with the help of his wife (Bonham Carter) and speech coach (Rush). The film has just received multiple Academy Award nominations as well as some props from The Stuttering Foundation for bringing the speech impediment to the forefront of people’s minds as something other than a laughing matter. No special features have been announced at this time.

Of course I’m excited for this! I really, really, really enjoyed this film and it was one of the few films that brought me to tears with joy.  So inspiring and such great performances.  And although I’m an even bigger fan of THE SOCIAL NETWORK and BLACK SWAN, I would totally be alright with THE KING’S SPEECH taking Best Picture.
