Colin Firth is a spy in the first Kingsman: The Secret Service trailer

It’s never a good sign when the studio advertises that a trailer features a new song from Iggy Azaela featuring Ellie Goulding.  I feel like songs get debuted in trailers all the time with little or no fanfare.  But there are a lot of warning signs around KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE; it was delayed, it got a February release date and it bombed at Comic-con.  To Fox’s credit, they’re at least trying to get creative with how they market and sell the Mathew Vaughn film.  The problem is that the basic premise of a veteran agent teaching a hotshot rookie is so played out that someone would have to do something extremely creative to breath new life into it.  Unfortunately, I don’t think Vaughn brought anything new to this.  That said, I think it will be a moderately fun ride on cable when you can’t find anything else.

The official synopsis for KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE: Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS), KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE stars Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Strong, Michael Caine, Mark Hamill, Sophie Cookson and features cameos from several famous Brits, including David Beckham and Adele.  The film hits theaters on February 13th, 2015.
