Dakota Johnson is officially Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Of Grey

Dakota Johnson

This is nothing to get choked up about because she’s been tied to the role for a while, but Dakota Johnson has officially been cast as Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of the mommy porn book FIFTY SHADES OF GREY.  Okay, puns really aren’t my thing.  But the big news this otherwise slow Labor Day weekend is that the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, Dakota Johnson has landed the sort-of coveted role of Anastasia Steele.  I say sort-of because I think there was a lot of excitement on the role in the beginning, with some big names attaching themselves, but then things seemed to sizzle and it looked more and more like an un/little known actress would be taking the part, hence Dakota Johnson.  Dakota Johnson has had small parts in movies like THE SOCIAL NETWORK, 21 JUMP STREET and THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT.  There’s nothing official as far as a male lead is concerned, although Charlie Hunnam is the popular rumor right now.  Kelly Marcel wrote the script, while Sam Taylor-Johnson (NOWHERE BOY) will direct the movie that is slated to hit theaters on August 1, 2014. (Deadline)

For those of you that don’t know, the official Amazon synopsis of the E L James novel is as follows: When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.  Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

UPDATE: It’s official, Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey.
