Daniel Craig won't be starring in Monuments Men while Sam Mendes won't direct the next James Bond film
We have a couple of bits of somewhat related bad news to share this morning. First up, it look like Daniel Craig won’t be starring in George Clooney’s MONUMENTS MEN after all. Although he was officially cast last Fall, his name was conspicuously absent from the official press release that came out yesterday. One of the film’s stars, Bob Balaban confirmed on Twitter, “DC isn’t in MM Matt Damon is.” His Tweet implies that Matt Damon replaced Daniel Craig, but we never knew who was playing what, so it’s hard to know for sure. Still, even without Daniel Craig, George Clooney has a great cast, including himself, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Hugh Bonneville, and John Goodman. Production is already underway.
Speaking of James Bond, it looks like Sam Mendes won’t be directed the next James Bond film after all. There were rumblings that the SKYFALL director would direct the next one and maybe even the next two, but today he officially announced that he has turned down the gig. There were actually all kinds of rumors surrounding his involvement, including the idea that he wrote a two part script with John Logan and then another that he wrote a standalone script. No word yet on whether or not his script(s) will be used or if they even exist. For those of you holding out hope that he may return at some point. He did leave the door open by saying “I feel very honored to have been part of the Bond family, and very much hope I have a chance to work with them again sometime in the future”. So let the speculation begin as to who will direct Daniel Craig in the 24th James Bond film. (Empire)
