Daniel Radcliffe looks sophisticated in the first look from Kill Your Darlings
So was anyone else as surprised as me that the first post-Harry Potter film with Daniel Radcliffe, THE WOMAN IN BLACK, was actually a box office success? The film made about $53 million at the box office, which is pretty good considering Daniel Radcliffe was the only recognizable name. It’s not that I don’t like Daniel Radcliffe, but breaking out of a role as internationally recognizable as Harry Potter is an incredibly daunting challenge (just ask Mark Hamill). So the point is; there’s hope for Daniel Radcliffe after Harry Potter after all. Next up for the boy wizard is the film KILL YOUR DARLINGS for director John Krokidas. In it, Daniel Radlciffe will play the famous beat poet Allen Ginsberg.
As you can see from the picture below, they have Daniel Radcliffe in full hipster gear, complete with tweed, a scarf, thick sweater and hair that takes two hours to make it look like it wasn’t combed. The film is set in 1944 and revolves around the murder in Columbia of David Kammerer, who was the lover of Lucien Carr. But that murder brought together Allen Ginsberg, Jack Keouac and William S. Burroughts and is sometimes started with starting the Beat Revolution. Get your pipes and poetry books out because this one is going to be hipster overload.
Along with Daniel Radcliffe as Alan Ginsberg, Jack Huston (the grandson of the legendary John Huston) will be playing Jack Kerouac, Elizabeth Olsen will be playing Jack Kerouac’s first wife, Edie Parker, Dane Dehaan (the upcoming CHRONICLE) will be playing Lucien Carr and Ben Foster will be playing William S. Burroughs. Michael C Hall, Kyra Sedgwick and Jennifer Jason Leigh round out the cast. No word on a release date, but production just started this week in New York, so we’ll probably have to wait until 2013 to see Daniel Radcliffe in more tweed.
