Darren Aronofsky circling X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 with Hugh Jackman

The name Darren Aronofsky and the character Wolverine don’t really seem to go together, but it’s being reported that Fox is in serious talks with the director to tackle the sequel.  If you’re a fan of Aronofsky and you’ve seen some of his movies (THE WRESTLER, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM), then you know he normally tackles deep, dark, emotional dramas that don’t have much of a broad appeal.  So him attaching himself to a superhero movie, and a sequel nonetheless, is a bit of a surprise.

However, with that said, it makes me excited to see the film.  The first Wolverine movie was fun, but it didn’t do a whole lot for me.  Aronofsky will obviously add a depth to the franchise that it has never seen.  The question is whether he can structure the story in a way that’s both interesting and exciting.  With Wolverine, he’s not making a movie for adults, he’s making a film for people of all ages, something he hasn’t done before.  Either way, I’m excited to see where this goes.
