Darren Aronofsky leaves Wolverine 2; Hugh Jackman will stay on

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

Director Darren Aronofsky has decided to back out of the not-yet greenlit film THE WOLVERINE , but Hugh Jackman and 20th Century Fox will push on. The BLACK SWAN director has said the reason for leaving the film is because a lot of the filming will take place overseas and he doesn’t want to be away from his family for that length of time. Fox doesn’t seem to have any hard feelings and claims to understand the reasoning behind the decision. No word on when production will begin, as the film was to be shot in Japan but plans have changed.

I’m a little bummed that Aronofsky will pass on directing duties, but I totally respect a man who wants to be with his family- it’s actually a little refreshing. It’ll be interesting to see another director’s take on the Wolverine mythology and I’m excited to see who Fox will bring on.
