David O. Russell leaves Uncharted, is Mark Wahlberg next?

Director David O. Russell has unexpectedly left the film adaptation of UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE that was set to star his BFF Mark Wahlberg. There’s no reason given for his departure, but since receiving so many accolades for his work on THE FIGHTER, the notoriously difficult Russell has been a hot commodity and is more than likely focusing on a project that’s more personal to him. The bigger question is whether or not Mark Wahlberg will remain attached since many thought the allure of working with Russell again was the biggest draw for Mr. Wahlberg.
It’s odd that a video game like Prince of Persia can easily get a $100 million plus budget and backing by a major producer and studio while a game that actually makes sense to turn into a movie like Uncharted struggles to get off the ground. With that said, I’m not sure O. Russell is the best choice to direct since a movie like UNCHARTED is going to have to have some serious action in order to get people in the theater.
