Dennis Hopper: 1936-2010

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

Veteran actor Dennis Hopper, the star of such films as EASY RIDER, HOOSIERS and TRUE ROMANCE has passed away today at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer.  Dennis Hopper had one of the oddest careers of any actor I can think of.  After writing, directing and starring in EASY RIDER (one of the AFI’s top 100 movies of all time), he did TRUE GRIT and APOCALYPSE NOW before falling into obscurity for almost a decade, where he reemerged in BLUE VELVET and then with an incredible performance in TRUE ROMANCE (the scene with him and Christopher Walken is one of my all-time favorites) and as the villain in SPEED.  Recently, he had mostly done TV shows, including ‘Las Vegas’ and the forgettable ‘Crash’.

Dennis Hopper’s fast, crazy-talking is something I’ll always remember, which he made even more famous with some great Nike commercials in the 90’s, but he’ll always be remembered for EASY RIDER.  It’s a sad day in Hollywood as we lost one of the screen’s most talented actors.
