Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline and Richard Jenkins to star in Darling Companion

Until this very moment, I didn’t know that Lawrence Kasdan was making a trilogy that started with THE BIG CHILL and then went to GRAND CANYON and now will end with DARLING COMPANION. I’m not completely sure I see the connection between the films, other than they’re all ensemble romantic dramedies. For GRAND CANYON, he’s assembled quite a cast that includes Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline, Elisabeth Moss and Richard Jenkins. Kasdan wrote the film with his wife Meg, who also co-wrote GRAND CANYON.
The film is about a married couple (Keaton and Kline) whose marriage is growing stale, which prompts the wife to adopt a stray dog. But while at a wedding at their vacation home, the husband loses the dog, prompting a search for the mutt that includes various guests and a mysterious woman. I like the inclusion of the dog, but whenever pets are included in a film, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the dog-human relationship, thus distracting from the human-human relationships in the movie. The film is set to start shooting later this month.
