Dolphin Tale and Moneyball top the box office while What's Your Number, with Chris Evans and Anna Faris, flops

For most of this weekend, MONEYBALL was on pace to take the box office, but it just couldn’t beat out the wholesomeness of DOLPHIN TALE.  But the good news is that life is back to normal and THE LION KING 3D fell to number 3.  I still think it’s ridiculous that a movie sitting on most people’s shelves can reach third place in theaters, but at least it didn’t take the top spot three weekends in a row.  But this wasn’t a great weekend for new movies.  The Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen “cancer comedy” 50/50 barely managed a fourth place showing.  If I may impart a bit of analysis on 50/50, what in the world was it doing being released in the middle of the forgetful fall movies?  This is actually a good film, but it’s not one people are going to rush out and see.  This needs a limited release and a ton of promo screenings so people can spread it through word of mouth.  But oh well, it will find a home on Blu-ray.  But the biggest bomb/flop of the weekend was the Anna Faris and Chris Evans rom-com WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER.  Not much analysis is needed there; the movie looked horrible and people stayed away.

Next week features the robot boxing flick REAL STEEL and the George Clooney and Ryan Gosling political drama THE IDES OF MARCH. My money is on REAL STEEL to take the weekend.  Who doesn’t love boxing robots?  Note: the numbers below will be updated as they become final.
