Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson star in The Guard trailer

I never would have pictured Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson together and making a good team, but that’s exactly what happened with their new film THE GUARD.  Of course, Cheadle and Gleeson are both extremely talented actors, so it makes sense that they would work well in anything they do.  In THE GUARD, Gleeson plays a cop in Ireland that has grown accustomed to doing what he wants and getting away with it.  But things get difficult for him when an American FBI agent (Cheadle) comes to Ireland to investigate a crime.  The film has an “odd-couple” feel to it, if the odd-couple is a racist Irishman and a fish-out-of-water FBI agent.  The film also stars Mark Strong and Liam Cunningham.

The trailer looks like it will be one of those fun, quirky films and will be a nice find for people that happen to catch it at theaters.  It opens on July 29th, but it will probably get lost in the bigger summer movies.  John Michael McDonagh, who wrote the screenplay for NED KELLY, is directing the film.
