Drew Barrymore set to helm How to Be Single

After Drew Barrymore’s first directorial effort, WHIP IT, was such a rousing success, the world (or at least this writer) has been waiting to see what her follow-up project will be. Well, we must wait no more as Barrymore has decided that her next film will be an adaptation of the 2008 novel HOW TO BE SINGLE, which was written by Liz Tuccillo. It’s a multi-plot line film much like last year’s VALENTINE’S DAY and Barrymore’s previously produced film HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU, and will follow a group of New Yorkers who are in love and break-up over the course of ten years. This film will be written by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn who also wrote HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU, which was produced by and starred Barrymore. No word on when the film will get started.

I love Drew Barrymore and think she’s one of the most adorable actresses in Hollywood and any film has a chance of being better because she’s in it. With that in mind, I hated HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU, and I’m getting a little tired of these films that intertwine so many people’s lives because in most cases the story gets diluted. I thought Garry Marshall did a good job with VALENTINE’S DAY, but that’s only because the characters were so one dimensional I didn’t really care if any of them got more screen time. I’ll hold off judgment until I see HOW TO BE SINGLE, but I don’t have my hopes too high.
