Drew Pearce hired to write Sherlock Holmes 3 for Robert Downey Jr.

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS doesn’t come out for another month and a half, but that’s not going to stop Warner Bros. from hiring a writer for the third Sherlock Holmes film.  Apparently, Robert Downey Jr. likes having Drew Pearce write the third installment of his trilogies because Pearce will be writing both IRON MAN 3 and the third Sherlock Holmes adventure.  Of course, at this point, we have no idea what the film will be about or if it will feature any of the same returning characters from the first two films.  I’d imagine they want to see how Jared Harris does as Moriarty before they commit to having him in another film.

So what do you think of WB getting ahead of themselves and moving forward with a third film?  Personally, I think more studios should film sequels back to back to save on money and time.  I think we can all assume that even if SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS isn’t a good film, it will still be successful.  So a third film is a matter of semantics at this point.  The real question is whether or not they bring back Guy Ritchie to direct.  The second film opens December 16th and stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Noomi Rapace.
