Eddie Murphy to play former mayor Marion Barry in HBO biopic from Spike Lee

Dropping out as host of the Oscars is not stopping Eddie Murphy, in fact, its not even breaking his stride.
The actor has recently been cast as former Washington D.C. mayor Marion Barry in Spike Lee’s biopic for HBO Films. RED TAILS scrive John Ridley will be the one to pen the script for the project. I think this would definitely be a good move for Murphy who hasn’t really presented any great performances since DREAMGIRLS.
Journalists Harry Jaffe and Tom Sherwood have been tapped to consult, along with The Nine Lives of Marion Barry filmmakers Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer. Barry was smoking crack in a hotel in the 1990s and served six months in prison. Barry started out as mayor in D.C. in 1979 and served several consecutive terms until the controversy hit.
