Edgar Ramirez may take over for Benicio Del Toro in Star Trek 2

Posted by: Zack Bruce

It’s a bit of a letdown that Benicio Del Toro had to drop out as the villain for STAR TREK 2. There are also still reports that Khan will definitely be the bad guy despite J.J. Abrams basically flat out saying no.

With Del Toro out of the picture, Abrams is moving fast on replacing him. Over the next couple of days, Edgar Ramirez (DOMINO, THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) will do testing for the role via Skype. He is currently the front runner for the part aside from Jordi Molla (COLUMBIANA). Molla might look more promising if Ramirez cannot fit it in his schedule. Apparently Abrams wants someone that can solely commit to doing it.

The shoot will last about six months covering January thru June. The sequel is set to be released on May 17, 2013.
