Elizabeth Taylor 1932-2011

Legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor passed away this morning from complications arising from congestive heart failure she suffered several weeks ago.  I’m sure most of today’s movie-going crowd don’t remember Elizabeth Taylor, but in her day, she was one of the most beautiful and talented actresses alive.  She won Academy Awards for her roles in BUTTERFIELD 8 and WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF and appeared in many other great films such as GIANT and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.

Personally, this is very sad news as I grew up watching her movies.  My mother was a huge fan of Taylor’s and by the time I was 14, I had seen everything she had done.  Even if I didn’t understand what was going on all the time, there was no mistaking her beauty and elegance on the big screen.  If your only memory of Taylor is the punch-line she became later on in life, or her wacky appearance at the Golden Globes in 2001, then I highly recommend picking up GIANT or any of her other classic films.  She was a rare talent and will be missed.
