Emily Blunt to join Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep in Into The Woods

Emily Blunt

Recently, we reported that Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal were circling the role as the two princes in Disney’s adaptation of the Broadway musical INTO THE WOODS.  Now it looks as though the lovely Emily Blunt will be signing on for the lead.  Most of the cast is still in negotiations but we do know that both Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep are locks.  Also in talks is Christine Baranski (The Good Wife) along with James Corden (THE THREE MUSKETEERS).  Rob Marshall will be directing the film and is no amateur at musicals previously helming CHICAGO and NINE.  The cast so far is definitely very interesting and should be fun to see some of them stretch their singing chops.  I love Emily Blunt so that’s always a good choice especially in this fairy tale mashup.

The official INTO THE WOODS synopsis of the Broadway musical: A young maiden called Cinderella, an abstracted boy named Jack, his mother, the giant he upsets, a childless baker and his wife, Rapunzel, a couple of princes, a witch, Little Red Riding Hood, and the wolf all find themselves in the woods, where they are forced to face their fears, and learn a few lessons along the way.
