Emily Blunt joins Tom Cruise in All You Need Is Kill
Although I’m very much a fan of hers now, I have to admit that it took me a while to jump on the Emily Blunt bandwagon. I appreciated her supporting turns in films like THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and SUNSHINE CLEANING, but it wasn’t until her starring opposite Matt Damon in THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU that I realized Emily Blunt was definitely a leading lady in Hollywood. That prompted me to go back and catch some of her other films, including YOUNG VICTORIA and WIND CHILL and it was clear then that she was destined to be more than the leading lady’s sidekick. And now Emily Blunt can be seen in everything with THE FIVE YEAR ENGAGEMENT and LOOPER coming out in 2012. Next up for the British actress is one of her biggest roles yet as she’s nabbed the leading female role opposite Tom Cruise in ALL YOU NEED IS KILL.
The film is a mixture of GROUNDHOG DAY and SOURCE CODE and revolves around a soldier (Cruise) in the middle of an alien war that finds himself living his last day of battle over and over. You might think that Emily Blunt would be playing the lonely housewife, waiting for her husband to return, but in fact, she’ll be playing a soldier opposite Tom Cruise. I haven’t read the novel of the same name by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, so I don’t know if Emily Blunt’s character and Tom Cruise’s character eventually get romantic.
If that wasn’t enough, Emily Blunt is also in the running to join Johnny Depp in the remake of THE THIN MAN. It looks like all of Hollywood’s leading men want to star with Emily Blunt. ALL YOU NEED IS KILL is set to be directed by Doug Liman and should get underway shortly since Tom Cruise’s schedule is pretty packed for the next few years. (Variety)
